As a Physical Therapist evaluating and treating patients with spinal dysfunction, it is important to be able to make a differential assessment as to the source of the patient’s dysfunction, underlying pathology and its correlation with the patient’s symptoms. PT at LHPT will methodically and systematically evaluate and treat everyone using advanced clinical reasoning; design a specific program of training, manual therapy and/or modalities designed to address both the subjective and objective findings.
In acute stages, achieving independence and self – maintained efficient function is a primary goal for all patients. With that goal in mind, PTs at LHPT will train patients in certain basic self-care activities like finding a comfortable sleeping position; how to get in and out of the bed without aggravating the symptoms; finding position of comfort; using ice, taking an ant-inflammatory medication (as approved by the attending physician), avoiding known aggravating activities.
The comprehensive PT management will include mechanical treatment of joints, soft tissues, viscera, and neurovascular structures through the Functional Mobilization Therapy approach. This will be complimented with specific Neuromuscular re-education techniques needed to promote efficient initiation and endurance of the muscles required for obtaining and maintaining efficient posture and optimum function.
