Each foot is made up of 26 bones, 30 joints and more than 100 muscles, tendons and ligaments, all of which work together to provide support, balance and mobility.

Musculoskeletal conditions of the foot and ankle are an important public health challenge due to their increasing incidence combined with their substantial negative impact on patients’ quality of life.

In our experience, individuals with foot and ankle pain have multiple co-existing impairments in alignment, motion, load distribution and muscle performance that may be evident in static and/or dynamic tasks. Additionally, research support the inter-dependence between the foot, knee and hip joints. For instance, aberrant foot structure has been linked to foot osteoarthritis (OA), as well as OA and pain at the knee and hip.

In individuals with musculoskeletal conditions of the foot and ankle, the chief objectives of treatment are to afford pain relief, restore mechanics (alignment, motion and/or load distribution) and return the patient to their desired level of activity participation. Physical Therapists at LHPT will start with assessment of not just the foot and ankle alignment but of the whole extremity both in static position and dynamic loading, assess ROM in weight bearing and non- weightbearing positions and strength of the different muscle groups of the lower extremity. Each individualized treatment plan addresses the mechanical component to improve alignment, soft tissue and joint mobility, mobility of neural tissues. It is followed by neuromuscular training and home exercise plan to retain the gains made during each session.

What People say about Us

I have been seeing Isha Chawla for almost a year now. I have been to quite a few physical therapists in the past for both chronic and acute pain. She is by far the best person who has treated me. Her wisdom, and compassion, combined with her energetic and magical hands, have helped me to no longer experience certain pains and restrictions. In addition, I have learnt to manage other pain to a point where it is not significant any longer. She is an amazing physical therapist.
